In this chapter, you’ll study force, and laws of motion. Force is a push or a pull that causes a physical change in the object. In our day to day lives, we see forces while throwing a ball, pulling a door, riding a bicycle and more. Force and motion usually go hand in hand. Force has the ability to change the motion, direction, size, shape and magnitude of the velocity of an object. It is a muscular effort. In NCERT Solutions for Class 9 Science, Chapter 9, you’ll study three laws of motions as stated by Newton. You will also come across what is inertia, mass and conservation of momentum.
9.1 Balanced and Unbalanced Forces
9.2 First Law of Motion
9.3 Inertia and Mass
9.4 Second Law of Motion
9.4.1 Mathematical Formulation of Second Law of Motion
9.5 Third Law of Motion
9.6 Conservation of Momentum
Section 9.1 – In this section you’ll learn about balanced and unbalanced forces with the help of various activities such as two forces acting on a wooden block or some children trying to push a box on a rough floor, riding a bicycle and more.
Section 9.2 – In this section, you’ll study the first law of motion (along with its mathematical formula) as stated by Newton. You’ll learn about the observations done by Galileo and Newton in terms of motion, force and velocity. You’ll also learn about the downward and upward motion on an inclined plane.
Section 9.3 – In this section, you’ll study what is inertia and mass with the help of examples and activities.
Section 9.4 – In this section, you’ll come across the second law of motion (along with its mathematical formula) as stated by Newton with the help of some examples and activities.
Section 9.5 – In this section, you’ll study the third law of motion as stated by Newton with the help of examples and activities.
Section 9.6 – In this section, you’ll acquire knowledge about the law of conservation of momentum with the help of a collision of two balls.
In this chapter, you are provided with several diagrams, activities and examples with their solutions for a clear understanding of Force and Laws of Motion.
